Outlook Express Keeps Asking For My Password, or I get a "Quota Exceeded" Message When Checking Mail

You try checking mail and Outlook Express continues to ask for a password even though you put in the correct password.

You try checking mail and get a message stating:

-ERR [SYS/TEMP] Unable to copy mail spool file, quota exceeded (69)

This is because mailboxes are limited to 10MB on our server. If more than 10MB of mail is stored on our server your email software will no longer be able to receive messages. This limit is only for messages left on our server and has nothing to do with messages stored on your computer.

This is caused because your email software is set to leave mail on our server after you check it. Most people don't even realize that they are set up this way. The most common reason to do this is if you are checking mail from more than one computer and want to make sure that your mail is received on both computers. In either case, you need to adjust some settings on your computer so that you limit the amount of mail left on the server. You also need to delete the excessive mail.

To Delete Mail:

For the next 7 days, mail will continue to be delivered to your mailbox (up to a total of 20MB), and you have that long to empty your mailbox. You can do this by logging into webmail and deleting your mail there. Make sure you empty the trash and delete any mail in your sent items folder and you saved folder, and any other folders that you may have created. After 7 days you will not be able to check mail using webmail and will need to call our customer service office to have us clear your mailbox. Anyone who tries to send you a message will have it returned undeliverable.

To Adjust Your Mail Software:

Outlook Express

  1. Open Outlook Express
  2. Click TOOLS and select ACCOUNTS
  3. Click on the MAIL tab
  4. Select your Andiamo connection, and click PROPERTIES
  5. Click on the ADVANCED tab
    • If you don't need to check mail on more than one computer, uncheck "Leave a copy of messages on server"
    • If you check mail on more than one computer, leave that checkbox checked, and check "Remove from server after [] day(s)". Select the fewest number of days you can while still being able to check mail on both computers. If you continue to receive the error often, lower the number of days to leave the mail on the server.
  6. Click OK, then click CLOSE.
