Dialing Up When You Are Away From Home

If you are traveling and need to connect to your Andiamo dialup account either from a hotel that requires special dialing, using a calling card, a prepaid phone card, or any other occasion you would need special dialing, follow the procedure below to set up your computer so that you can manually dial the phone. You will need to have the computer connected to the same line as a standard telephone so you can use the handset to place your call.

Windows XP

  1. Click START
  2. Click CONTROL PANEL
  3. Click NETWORK CONNECTIONS
  4. On the ADVANCED menu at the top, click OPERATOR ASSISTED DIALING
Scroll to the bottom of this page for connecting instructions.

Windows 98 & Me

  1. Open Dial-up Networking (Located in My Computer in Win9x, Control Panel in WinMe)
  2. RIGHT-click on the connection & select PROPERTIES.
  3. Down where it says "Connect Using" and has a drop down box for the modem, click on CONFIGURE
  4. Click on the OPTIONS tab
  5. Check "Operator assisted or manual dial"
  6. Click OK, and OK again
Scroll to the bottom of this page for connecting instructions.

Dialing Instructions

When the computer tries to connect to the Internet, instead of dialing a box will appear with a message similar to "You have selected manual dialing. Dial the number and when you are done dialing click OK".

Dial the number on the handset as required to connect. For example, if using a prepaid calling card, dial the access number, dial the phone card number at the prompt, then dial the Andiamo access number. When the phone starts ringing, click OK and hang up the handset. The computer will try to connect without dialing, and if all goes right it should connect.

A couple of tips: If you wait too long to click "OK" the server may answer and your computer will miss the beginning of the handshake (buzzing noises) and the connection won't go through. Also, if you hang up too late, the "click" of you hanging up may make the connection drop.
